Friends In Need

I write this post with a heavy heart. We all know the difficulties of this current economic situation. For many, it may appear to be something that affects people far, far away in a distant universe. When it hits close to home – well, that’s a different story.

I personally know of several close friends that have been and are currently affected by this downturn.

Today I write about one of those couples…

Have you ever heard the term – fast friends? To me it means people that come into your life that seem like you’ve know them all your life. Mike and Sue Kennon are those kind of friends to me and Karen.  We met them several years ago and instantly became friends. We’ve even done vacations together – and that will make ya or break ya. Know what I mean?

Mike and Sue ran a once successful business from their home. No, it wasn’t mlm or a potion/lotion-type thing. It was and is a Trucking business – Kennon Transport. They would get loads from manufacturers and then find drivers to carry the loads. They would make a commission through the deal – kind of a middleman type of thing. It’s a necessary aspect of the trucking business. Mike started to see a downturn in his business back in 2008. Then in 2009 it dried up to just a trickle. As you can guess, 2010 has been even worse.

Sue recently started working a part-time job to help make ends meet. Mike has filled out over 200 applications trying to find SOMETHING. They’re not just waiting – they have taken and are taking action. Since he was self-employed, Mike cannot even think about an unemployment check.

Think about this – this time of year is about giving. God gave us His Son so that we could live and know Him forever. He asked for nothing in return. No strings. He just wants us to accept Him and then show love and concern to others. In other words, be His hands and feet in this world.
