My wife(Karen) and I had a fantastic 4th of July weekend! It all began Friday evening when we met our good friends, Mike and Sue at their house and went to the thriving metropolis of Moncks Corner, SC for their annual “Dance on the Square”. After a very humid week with soaring temperatures, the evening was absolutely perfect temp-wise.
We got there in plenty of time to set up our chairs in good position around the “dance floor” – basically a cordoned-off area on the pavement. After setting up we made our way over to the vendors for some vittles. Karen decided on a whoppin’ hot dog and I chose a nice braut with bun and mustard. Of course, there was a Boiled Peanuts vendor there so I had to partake of some fine southern caviar.
The band was a group of locals that were, shall we say, seasoned. Actually they were pretty good, playing some old R & B and Beach Music. Not too many people were dancing – mostly the children.
We left the “dance” and went back to Mike and Sue’s for our favorite card game – Phase Ten. We had a ball…..we always have fun with those guys.
Saturday turned out to be a work day. I decided to pressure wash the front of my house. It needed it pretty bad. Basically I concocted a mixture of detergent, Clorox and water. I supplied the pressure with a brush and water hose to rinse it off. It worked great and looks a lot better.
That evening we went to church and to a cookout at our neighbors, Brian and Karie. Grilled chicken and all the fixin’s – that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
Sunday, July 4th, we spent the majority of the day at our neighborhood pool having fun with good friends. The only problem was that I didn’t apply enough sunscreen and got cooked to a glowing shade of RED! Another cookout that evening and a rather wimpy fireworks display put on by a couple of neighbors.
All in all it was a great weekend and a wonderful way to celebrate our FREEDOM in this great country of ours.
