Turning 60

fireworksWell, it finally happened. Last month I turned the ripe OLD age of 60 so I just wanted to share a few thoughts on how I feel about that.

I guess one of the main thoughts I have is that I don’t feel like I thought I’d feel when I turned 60. There are people all around me that are younger but act and look a whole lot older than me.

Yeah, I know I could stand to lose some poundage but, for the most part, I feel pretty dadgum good!

I do wonder, however, where those random hairs come from and why they decide to pop out in the most unusual places like the top of my nose, on my ears. Let’s not forget the occasional wild eyebrow hair that decides to grow 18 inches overnight!!

For the past few years my muscles take a while to get back to normal after playing a round of golf. It probably has nothing to do with the amount of strokes I have per round. (Surely Not!!) Thank goodness for the four Ibuprofen that await me as soon as I get home from the course.

Growing up I was always active running around and as a result had a healthy appetite but maintained a slender physique. Unfortunately the appetite has remained but the slender physique, well, it’s gone.

I tell people that I have six pack abs in there somewhere.

One thing that I can say positive is that I still have a head full of hair. It is a bit grayer but it’s still hanging on. My twin brother has a lot more gray than I do and, let’s just say that, his forehead is a bit further back than mine. (Sorry Mike, I couldn’t resist that one!)

My wife and I love to travel and do fun things with our friends. Next month we are going down to the Keys for a week with 3 other couples. The house we rented is right on the water and has a pool on the property. We’re going to rent a boat for the week for fun and fishing.

Sounds like a couple of OLD fuddy duds, doesn’t it!

Age is just a number and life is what you make of it.

We intend to enjoy our lives to fullest NOW before our bodies tell us it’s time to slow down.

So, looking back on the couple of weeks that I’ve been 60 years old, it hasn’t been bad at all. Let’s see what the next 60 has in store!!
